Hi: Between the filter and pump on my inground pool, the PVC pipe has a round piece that I think is a disconnect. It rotates a little, but has been on there a long time. I took a photo, but am not allowed to post it.

My question two questions are:
1. Is a what I described a disconnect?
2. If I disconnect it to make a repair, will it just screw back together or do I need lubricant, teflon tape, etc?
Thank you.

If it's a disconnect it will have a big, round nut that you MAY be able to loosen by hand or with a slip-joint wrench. If so, there will be a rubber O-ring inside. Before re-assembly that O-ring and where it makes contact must be clean. Also, a thin layer of teflon lubricant (specifically for rubber--every pool store sells it) will keep the O-ring healthy for years.

Post the photo by loading it to Flickr, Webshots, Google Drive or whatever, and then linking to it. (Or email it to me -- poolforum@gmail.com -- but there will be a delay.)
