    Hi and Welcome!

Lith-Hypo has only one $ide effect we know of--and you know what it i$ too! (Let'$ $ee if anyone can gue$$ what it i$!)

Tabs are Tri-Chlor and they tend to lower pH and raise CYA until you need VAST quantities of chlorine to keep your pool clear. Plus they aren't too cheap either

Normally, we say just use regular, unscented bleach for all your chlorine needs. You can get double-strength (12.5%) at pool stores in 5 gallon carboys called "Liquid Chlorine" or LC. Like Lith-Hypo, LC has no known side effects, but doesn't open a canyon in your bank account.

Take a look around! Read the stickied threads in each section. Consider buying a top-notch test kit.
