    Default Hayward Cartridge filter leaking

The leak occurs when I reassemble the upper and lower halves. Is there a trick to join them so it doesn't leak?

Fixed with a little Vaseline on the rubber gasket

When I bought my house last year I lubed with Vaseline as well but I'm pretty sure several folks here warned that it could deteriorate the o-rings since it's petroleum based. I went with something my local pool store sold (it really wasn't very expensive). This looks simmilar: http://www.google.com/search?q=pool+...iw=981&bih=547

The vaseline will wreck it. I used it a few yrs ago and the O ring got slightly larger. Then the two halfs would not fit with some work.

Clean the inside where the O ring sits, and the top half where the o ring attaches to. Use vegatable oil. Thats what you are buying from the pool store IMO. Thats what I saw in the tube they had.
