Sand in the pool

Everytime I have to turn the pump off and then back on for things such as backwashing, When i turn the pumbp back on the return has about 15 seconds where what looks like sand in coming out into the pool. Am I doing something wrong or not doing something? How do I fix this?

After you backwash, are you switching it to "rinse" and running it for a minute or so before going back to "filter"?

Nope hadn't tried that. I will give it a try when I get home in the morning.

I had this problem last year when one of the laterals in the filter developed a hole. Sure enough, replacing it fixed the problem.
