Solar covers - 12 Mil vs 16 mil - weight an issue?

I am looking at a new solar cover for my 16 X 32 inground pool. I have seen some posts about the 16 being too heavy but the suppliers I have talked to have said it is only about 5 - 8 lbs difference. This does not seem excessive for the increased life and heat retention.

Is this an accurate assessment? Or are there other issues?

I think it lifespan, not weight, that makes the difference.
