Alternatives to water bags for cover weights?

Does anyone have alternatives to using water bags to weigh down their winter covers? I really don't like the water bags. I find they are expensive, don't last more than two winters and are a pain to empty in the spring.

I've used some leftover retaining wall blocks to supplement them, but keeping enough around to fully secure a cover for a 16x32 pool isn't very practical. Love to hear about what people use instead of bags.

There are plastic boxes available that would think would be better. Don't use anything you don't want in your pool. The blocks could be pulled in if the water level drops or something heavy blows onto the cover.

And I'm here to tell you how true it is. I started my season this year with a cold swim in the deep end to fish out 10 8x12 inch pavers that had gotten pulled in when the wind came up and off went the cover. Also got to try my patching skills on two small (thankfully) holes in the liner.

What'd I know, that's how the pool came when we bought the house.

Same here, only insert cement block ripped a 6' long gash in the liner on it's way down and we lost 2/3 of our water and the liner was un-repairable...
