Recirculate just means the water is by-passing the filter.

How much water are you losing?

Is it possible that you put the filter in backwash position? Even then it should be obvious where the water is going unless you had a direct connection from the backwash outlet to a sewer line.

I guess it is possible I had it in between the 2 but I didn't even look to see if it was coming out of the waste pipe, I wish I were plumbed into the sewer pipe.
