Question Upgrading to Intex sand filter

I recently purchased an Intex sand filter/pump for my Easy Set 18' x 48" pool. The pump included new intake and output fittings (the intake seemingly more substantial than original), yet the new intake has no attachment for the vacuum hose. I was wondering if it was ok to leave original in/out fittings to use vacuum hose or would I need to switch them (for the stronger bigger pump) or if there was another solution?
PS the fittings in question are the ones inside the pool (wall parts).
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I'm not sure -- some others here may be. BUT, I am sure you'll get much better answers if you post pictures. (Picasa, Photobucket, Webshots, Flickr are all OK)
