    Default cloudy water

After adding calcium hardness to the pool the water is cloudy.

Total chlorine is 5ppm, free chlorine is 0.5, total alkalinity is 240, ph is 8.4 and hardness is 250. The pool is fiberglass lined. Any thoughts?

Hgh pH and high TA will cause the calcium to precipitate out of the water, making it milky. Use acid to drop both-- the step by step directions can be found in thr "alkalinity and calcium" part of the forum--but you'll need to log out to see it until your registration is completed.

If you truly have TC of 5 ppm and FC of 0.5, then you have a serious chlorination issue. You need to shock the pool, but your shock level is based on your CYA, which you don't list. Check the "best guess chlorine chart" for more info about shocking.

    Welcome to the forum!!
