Default Flexible hose instead of PVC?

I'm looking to swap out a sand filter and have to rework the plumbing some. Part of my existing plumbing has a white flexible hose that I will probably have to replace. What is that called, where do you get it and does it take some special adhesive for proper joining?

If it is a thick walled hose it is probably flex pvc and can be found at most good hardware and plumbing supply stores. It uses standard pvc cement and fittings.
