Question Winter closing IG BBB Safety Cover - Best Chemical Balance prior to closing?

My first post. I use BBB. My pool is inground cement with epoxy paint over concrete. I use BBB method. Well Water, some iron. This year have only added CYA in the spring, liquid bleach 12 %, and muriatic acid to lower ph.

My pool is approx 28x18 inground kidney shaped.

Current CYA 30, Chlorine shock level, PH 7.8 Calcium 140 Water 75F

I will be closing next week, putting on solid safety cover.

    Finally the question,

What is the best chemical level prior to closing?

With iron laden well water, there are a number of issues you need to address.

Please complete the Pool Chart; it makes it MUCH easier to answer questions well:

    I'll check back this evening.

    I have done the chart.

I actually did out before I started the thread, but I have just done out again. re: the iron in my we'll water, I do not have rust stains in my pool. I have had high ph all summer but we have had almost no rain.

    thx for your help

Please note the corrected gallons figure, based on the dimensions you supplied. Kidney volume is always a bit of a guess, but the volume shown is for 90% of an enclosing 18x28 rectangle.

You didn't list your TA level, but you probably want to have your TA between 100 and 130 ppm, and your pH a bit lower.

But, the real key is making sure nothing grows -- if you get slime or algae growing, your chemistry will change, no matter what you set it at now.
