    You should be able to use a rubber plug -- links below. But, see if you bottom of your skimmer will accept a 1.5" or 2" PVC male plug, first. But be careful -- if you screw the PVC plugs in tightly, you may not be able to remove them without purchasing some LARGE 1/2" or 3/4" drive sockets, to use to unscrew the plugs.

    If you do go with a rubber plug, the blow up test plugs work best. Cherne test plugs are professional grade (plumber's use them when water testing an house's drain system) and are easy to install and remove. You'll likely need an airline extension though, to use one easily at the bottom of a skimmer. Note that the floor pump listed has much better reviews that some branded and much more expensive bike pumps.

    If you'll fill your skimmer with water, after plugging it, it will be much less likely to leak air into the line, causing your pump to loose prime.
