If I have a lot of floating debris, I aim mine away from the skimmer kinda towards the wall to try and aimed slightly upward to slightly ripple the water and get a good circular flow to push things around the perimeter of the pool towards the skimmer. If I am adding bleach, etc., I aim it more downward so that there is not a hot spot of bleach concentrated right towards the liner.
