    Default Low Alkalinity?

Just an observation with a small question(s).

In short, my Alk has been around 70 since I opened the pool about a month ago. Water is crystal clear (IG vinyl @22K) and ph - 7.6 and chlorine levels are stabilized. After a bit of rain the past few days I decided to try to raise it to near 100. Added @4lbs of baking soda (2lbs apart/day) and my alk didn't budge. After the initial 2lbs, of course my ph went up, so I added about a quart or so of muriatic - same on day 2. PH is back to around 7.6 and Alk is the same - @70.

Why didn't it go up is one of my small questions and 2), should I worry about it further? I mean, I'm probably answering my own question with a big 'DUH'; no swinging PH problems, but most recommend Alk be 80-125 ... why I'm asking.
