Default 2 Spd pump trips breaker in high spd only

    Hi All,

Recently we had a brown out, all lights in house barely on.

When power came back, the pool pump (1.5 hp 2 spd Magnetek Motor) trips the 20a GFCI breaker. On low speed all is well, as soon as I switch to high speed it trips usually instantly, sometimes after 2-3 secs. Capacitor maybe? Any other ideas welcome/

    Thanks
    Anthony

A capacitor is a cheap (+/-$10.00) part to try. Get an exact replacement (make sure the numbers on the new match the old). If it works, great. If not, the brown-out may have caused the high-speed windings to burn out and a new motor is needed.
