Default adding DE to a cartridge filter

    Hi all,

I recently read, in a post, that you can add DE to a cartridge filter. I've never heard this before and since I own a cartridge filter...it has me interested.

Would this be beneficial to do?

Are there complications that could arise?

Would it be a waste of time?

I'd love to hear all the views on this....

    ...thanks

I have never seen anything on this forum about adding DE to a cartridge filter. I wouldn't do it because you would just plug up a perfectly good filter. Some of us add DE to sand filters but that's because we're looking to get better filtering.

DE will plug up a cartridge filter. However the cellulose substitute for DE can be used with a cartridge filter but IMHO, is not really worth while. Carts can filter down to 20 microns and I believe the cellulose DE substitute filters about the same.

    Thanks Poconos and waterbear...

I didn't think it would do much other than plug up the cartridge filter a bit.

    thanks,
