DIY Pool heater

I noticed softub uses the heat from the pump to heat the water in their hot tubs. There are a few aftermarket pump covers that do the same thing. I was wondering if something like this could be used to help cool the pump and also heat up the water a bit since the pool pump does throw off quite a bit of heat.

Has anyone actually tried this?
