Default Do I need to replace wet end with motor?

    Hi All,

I recently replaced my 2 spd pump motor (hi spd kept tripping breaker, could only use on low spd)(1.5HP .18SPL) with a 2 spd 3/4 HP BN36 AOSmith. I went lower because it seems to be most here believe less is more with a sand filter, plus maybe save a couple of bucks on the bill if I can run on low spd. I only changed the motor, not the wet end which is a waterway with a 1hp impeller. Above ground by the way. The flow seems very strong, as strong as the old motor, I was surprised. My question is, should I get a new wet end or impeller rated for the smaller motor, am I overstraining the motor with an impeller rated for a bigger motor?

    Thanks
    Anthony

Just get the 3/4 HP impeller. The 1 HP is too much for the motor, and overheating it causing it to trip. If it still trips then get the 3/4 HP wet end.

The new 3/4 hp is not tripping. The old 1.5hp was tripping the breaker on "hi spd only" after a brown out a few weeks ago. The new 3/4 seems fine even on hi spd but I have been running it on low because I wanted to see if I should change the impeller/wetend before I burn this one out.
