How Long To Keep Shock Level

How long do you need to keep your shock level up? I read someplace it was 3 days (????) but that sounds like alot cause by the time it goes down to normal level again and you have many people in the pool or you get a few good storms (which is when your are supposed to shock it in the first place) it seems like you would never be in the pool....

Keep it up until your CC goes to zero, or until your cloudy water clears. If you're just shocking for general principles, then overnight is long enough.
