How Deep 5.5, 6, or 6.5

As Dr. Spike wrote in his/her post...it depends on what you want to do with it. Ours is 3' x 5' x 4' and we're very happy with it. I occasionally shallow dive into the 5' section, but mostly it's a relaxation and play pool. It's very well suited to hitting a ball back and forth--especially with kids. They can stand in the 3' section, while I'm at the other end in the 4' section.

I vote for deeper. I like some part of the pool where my feet don't touch and kids love to jump. You never hear anyone complaining their pool is too big or too deep. Only downside is cost...

Be aware that pool companies charge more for a deeper pool. Here in central FL - they consider a "normal" depth of 5' - with a premium for anything additional. We went with a 6' on a 15X30 pool.

Nothing is "normal" in an in-ground pool, except contractors want it easy and fast, and want you to pay out the wazoo for anything and everything fancy. That's the ONLY thing that's normal.
