Pump not pulling any water

Hi Guys and gals,
I wanted to show you what the cause of my problem was:



This is the pipe between the pump and the hopper. The pool tech who sawed 8 inches of concrete and dug out 4 feet of muck to replace it, claims that Chlorine can do this to a pipe over time. Anyway, he replaced it and the pool has been improving fast. something had really destroyed the pipe: Not only had it expanded radially, it expanded in length and the lack of space caused it to fold in on itself.
