Default City Pool closes down due to algae

According to the local paper, the city pool was closed down due to an algae bloom. The newspaper reports, the "algae contamination is believed to have started due to a combination of situations that arose over the previous two weeks. The pool developed a water main leaK in mid-July. While the pool was closed for repairs, the water was unable to circulate and the chlorination system malfunctioned. The water temperature became warm, alowing the algae to thrive."
The city clerk reported, "The only way to correct the problem is to drain the pool, acidize the areas and allow the sunlight to kill the algae."
What do you think? After what I read on this forum, I think chlorine shock could have cleared up the problem easily. Any comments?

Yep. You are correct. The clerk shouldn't quit their day job.
