Default Liner in and filling, need right gasket sequence for skimmer

I replaced my 27' X48" AG liner yesterday and it's at 31" right now and my daughter turned the water off until I get home from work. I read my through the wall skimmer instructions and they state: back gasket goes between skimmer and pool wall, then liner, then front plate gasket and finally front plate. I have read on these forums that it should be gasket, then liner and then front plate. Why the different order? What purpose does does the gasket between the liner and pool wall have? Keeping water from going down in between the liner and wall? Oh and what about the wall foam? I am assuming trim it wide of the opening and keep it out of the layers entirely. Is that correct?

Hi, with two seperate gaskets follow your instructions. skimmer, gasket, wall, liner, gasket and faceplate. You will need to cut the wall foam back a couple of inches.

Like a doofus and going against all that was logical I installed the gaskets much like a one piece gasket. The order: Skimmer, gasket, wall, gasket, liner and face plate. You are probably wondering how I got the gasket to stay inbetween the liner and wall. Little piece of duct tape on top and botton. Is this a problem? Seems to be watertight. Not much that I can do besides add another gasket inbetween the faceplate and liner with great difficulty. I read and read and still do the thing backwards. DOH! I did line the pool wall cut-out with duct tape. Is that okay?

You should be just fine. If it does not leak I would not worry about it.
