Default Do SWCGs work in hard water?

Our water is 430ppm calclium hardness and about 220ppm alkalinity. I can get the alkalinity down to 80ppm but there's nothing I can do about the calcium hardness. Is this a problem for SWCG systems like the Aquarite?

    Thanks,

My pool is at almost 600ppm Calcium (AZ, crazy evaporation and tap water about 450ppm.) My SWCG works well. I do keep my Alkalinity on the low side (about 80) to avoid cloudy water with the high calcium.

Are you telling us that water softeners are banned? That's the only way you can get low CH. They can work in hard water but the cell could get scaled up reducing its life.

I don't want to mess with a water softener just for a pool. Not sure how that would work anyway, trying to get 15,000 gallons out of it in a short time.

My tapwater is 430ppm, just tested the pool and it's up to 500ppm since a complete drain and refill at the first of June this year.

According to the Aquarite tech support page, places with hard water will require that the cell be cleaned every 3-4 months in a dilution of muriatic acid and water. Sound about right?

Aquarite recommends you clean the cell every three months in the operations manual I just got from my pool builder - I am sure they recommend that for every pool. I doubt that they make a different manual for different areas of the country depending on what they think may be the hardness of a local.

Don't worry about it - just inspect every 3 months and clean it if necessary.
