As I've posted many times, I'm an advocate of sand filters. Based on anecdotal evidence from this forum, they seem to be the most trouble free and, sized correctly, will give you sparklingly clear water.

Of course, you may find the DE leak in 10 seconds....or maybe 10 hours!!!

Can you not simply vacuum the DE from the pool?

I have a Hayward Perflex 75 which I disassemble at closing every year to clean.
I hang the finger assembly between some milk crates (high enough that the fingers are hanging free) then take a hose nozzle and systematically blow water backward through each finger. If there is a broken finger or a finger with a hole in it, the water will shoot out instead of flowing evenly all over.

After finding the bad ones simply replace it with a new one. They are sold 10 to a carton under part # ECX1031 or ECX1032 Depending on which filter you have.

I would rather fight than switch from my DE.

EDIT: Here's a link to the replacement parts page for your filter. http://www.haywardnet.com/products/r...fs/116-117.pdf
