    I've never used them but remember discussions here on the board. Basically I think if you have a very still pool surface they put down a chemical barrier to help retain some heat. Don't think there's any hard data to determine exactly how much benefit they provide.

    Mike,

    I had a bad experience with the little fishes.

    Seems I used them for about a month and started seeing a white waxy something floating in the skimmers. Took it to the pool builder and was told it was white mold and I would have to acid clean everything (they would only charge about $800 ).

    Being a skeptic, I took a sample to an analytical laboratory and had them do a qualitative analysis on the substance. $80 later I got the results ---- PARAFFIN The same substance in the little fishes (in an alcohol solution).

    Obviously the little fishes went out of the pool --- NEVER TO RETURN
