    Default CYA increase

    Hey Gang,

I'm back from last year. I just put my pool back up, filled it up, and added my bleach.

My CYA is below 30...probably 0 as it was quite clear.

My question is....since I switched over to BBB midseason last year, I have lots of 3" chlorinating Tablets (Trichloro-s-Triazinetrione) left. Can I use them to raise my CYA? If so, how would be the best way. Or do I need to go buy CYA?

I live in Central Texas where the sun shines Hot today and only gets worse as the summer moves on. I figure I need to have some CYA so that I'm not dumping galllons of bleach a day into the pool.

Thanks for the help. This list is the best!

The trichlor will raise your CYA, but too slowly to do you any good with a beginning CYA point of 0. I (live in Louisiana) would add the label dose of CYA to shoot for about 20-30 in your pool, then start with the trichlor to raise it on up to whatever your target level is. Don't forget that trichlor is acidic, so watch your pH, and that it takes up to a week for the CYA to dissolve, so don't retest for it or add more of the powder until that time.
