Will this pump/filter work?

I found out that the pool I am getting does come with the basics including the following.

Waterway 1.5HP 1 speed pump with 22" Sand filter. Apparently this is a kit combo.

My pool is a 24' 54" deep round Emerald Isle (artesian). I am wondering if I would be best to buy a smaller pump since 1.5hp is over kill or just use this one? If I do can I still use the Waterway sand filter or should I get something else?

I am not sure but I put a 1 1/2 hp pump on a 18in sand filter and when I try to vac the pool the hose sucks together and air get in the line. also when the automatic cleaner is vaccumeing the pool it also sucks up air. I also question if my pump is to strong for the filter. The pump reads a flow rate of 90 gpm.
the filter a haward S180t it said 20gpm filtration rate. Like i said I get air in my lines, Iknow my hoses dont leak the only place i cant tighten is the skimmer to the pool, I am afraid of breaking the plastic the screws srew into. any help would be great.
