BBB Method and Chlorinator

I started using BBB method 1/2 way thru last year (thanks!) but am confused about what to do with the auto-chlorinator (NuWater Unit) that came with the pool. Should I just leave it hooked up without a chlorine cartridge in it, should I disconnect, or should I use it as my regular source of chlorine thruout the summer (or maybe it doesn't matter???).

Leave it empty and use it when you have to be away from home during pool season.
