Question Hayward FIP Vari-Flo Valve hairline crack

I have a hairline crack on my Hayward 2" FIP Vari-Flo Valve for Pro-series DE Filter on the intake side. I have had a steady drip over the last 2 years. I am in the process of replacing the pump and am curious if there is an epoxy that I might use to place on the thread when I reassemble it. Would I be better off replacing it? Could I use a lesser unit, one with fewer flow options?

If it is on the threads you might try Plumbers Goop, you can find it at HomeDepot - it works quite well.
