Opening pool questions
Hi! We have a 30,000 gal ig pool that we want to try to open ourselves this year to avoid the $300+ bill we usually pay. We have the typical sand filter system. I'm wondering if (after removing plugs/cover/filling pool etc.) just filling the pump with water, then closing it, and then running it is the correct way to do it. Won't too much air from the incoming lines get in? Do I need to fill the sand tank with water, or just let fill duing priming?? THanks so much!!

Re: Opening pool questions
The filter tank is after the pump, so it has no effect on priming. Your pump can move some air, so it can prime itself. You probably also have drain plugs in the filter, pump basket and impeller housing to reinstall.

Thanks so much for the info, and also the info on the plugs! I'll give it a whirl.

Re: Opening pool questions
trying to figure out the plugs...
I've found where the plug for the pump basket goes, and the filter plug/cap, but I'm not sure where this other plug goes. I'm assuming by your reply it's the impeller plug. It's identical to the plug for the pump basket but smaller. The impeller is part of the pump right? I reached in there and felt a fan, but no plug hole. Also there's a small cylindrical screen that goes somewhere. Thanks for any help...I really appreciate it! Sorry to be such a novice.

Re: Opening pool questions
The impeller housing is the big part of the pump next to the basket. There is a hole that runs from the basket into the pump. Under this hole on the impeller housing is usually where the plug goes. Pour some water in the basket and water will leak out the hole to show you where it is.
The strainer is probably the pump basket strainer. It fits down in the pump basket. Look anything like this?
