Default ProTeam Shock & Swim (oxidizer really necessary?)

My pool company recommends 2lbs per week as an oxidizer. I think this means that it supposedly removes any combined chlorine that may be present - but not totally sure. Evidently there is also a small amount of ProTeam Supreme (Borax) in each application. I know that I can use Borax instead as a ph buffer, but is an oxidizer REALLY necessary?

    Thanks!!

No. If you have CC, shock with good 'ol chlorine to get rid of it.
