Getting Sand in my Pool

I just switched to a hayward sand filter about 1 month ago. I am not getting some sand in my pool. In the first few weeks everything was great up until last week or so. Now I cant get rid of some sand in the pool. I vacuum it out but it comes back. The pressure really hasnt risen on the pump so I didnt back wash. So I thought maybe that was causing it and my pressure gauge just wanst working right. So I backwashed but that didnt seem to help.

Maybe I am backwashing wrong. The way I did it was

1. turn the pump off.
2. turn the valve to Backwash
3. turn the pump on and let run for a minute
4. turn pump off
5. change valve to rise
6. turn pump on for a minute
7. turn pump off
8. change valve to filter
9. turn pump back on.

Any ideas?

I'd try the rinse/backwash rotation a few times before bringing it back to filter.

Rinse
Backwash
Rinse
Backwash
Rinse
Backwash
then finally filter.

(shutting the pump off in between the turning of the valve handle each time, that your doing correctly).

But that's more a remedy for high pressure, then anything else, which you are not experiencing.

Nothing but the highest of pressures should cause sand to get back through and into the pool. The filter itself is designed to not let sand through, so you could have something wrong with it mechanically. It could have been installed improperly and you just starting to see the effects of that now.

Are you certain that it is sand and not just dust? Also wondering what size pump and filter you have. Sometimes people have a pump that is too powerful for their filter and it just blows stuff right back into the pool.
