Default Is there such a thing as purple algea?

The pool is starting to form something on the sides and bottom that looks like a purple colored algea. Is there such a thing. It's slimy and purple, and the chlorine is starting to get eaten up. I'm shocking and vacuuming, but I have never seen anything like this. Thanks,

There is such a thihg as pink slime or pink algae. It is actually a bacteria. If you have a blue liner it might look purple.

Can you ever really totally get rid of it? Every time I think I have this beat, it comes back. Not real bad, but it does keep coming back. Any idea what causes it?

    Thanks,

too low a chlorine level causes it. It's hard to get rid of and takes very high chlorine levels. If you have high CYA than a sodium brominde based product (along with a LOT of chlorine) can be effective.
