    Default Need help fast

Our church pool chemistry is usually maintained by the lifeguards but they're told to call us oldtimers if they see a problem. Lifeguard just called to say that he's been adding soda ash daily to keep pH up above 7.4 but that alkalinity has dropped to almost nothing. Advice??

    Hi Hal

Without full test numbers all I can say is lots of baking soda! We can't be more specific without test #s and aprox. gallonage,

I doubt it is a major problem, you just need to 'tweek' the chem levels

Thanks, Ted. It's great to be back in the Forum. The biggest challenge today is where to source the baking soda. I doubt we'll be able to do anything today but the kids tell me there's not too much traffic on Saturday evening. I'm working on other sources for 50# bags but probably won't have it before Monday. Pool's closed on Sunday, even when it's 98 outside. Pool's about 175K gallons, CYA's about 95, CL at least 8, pH 7.4( I got these over the phone from the lifeguard.) Bioguard 1200 test kit. He said the alk test sample goes from green to clear after 3 or 4 drops. He's added 50# soda ash in 1 week. Last time I tested the CH it was 200-250. Thanks for your help.
