Hayward pool vacs and hose?

Is it OK to use plain jane blue vacuum hose from Home Depot on one of these, or Hayward is adamant about using only their hose on a Navigator pool vac?

Is this a simple suction-side vacuum that goes in the low drain or skimmer? If so, then any hose of the right size should be fine.

If it's a pressure-based vacuum then you probably need a floating hose for it to work correctly.
