Default cover off - green water - pump broken

    Hello all
I took the cover off, and did everything to open the pool, but the pump won't run. I called the guy who helps me with serious pool problems and he will come to fix the pump in a few days.

I there anything that I can add to the water to start to treat it? The water is the color of my lawn - really green!!!

I don't want to add any liquid shock/bleach as I'm afraid I might bleach my vinyl liner.

    Thanks

20,000 gallon inground with Vinyl liner

You can add some bleach and then stir it around with a broom, oar, etc. and that will start fighting the algae without having any 'hot spots' of high bleach concentration to damage your liner. The other suggestion is to use a submersible pump to circulate the water after adding bleach.

Thanks for the good advice! Just didn't want my pool to turn into a mosquito breeding swamp

Currently my pump is broken and I am trying to replace it, but like you I need to treat the water or my neighbors will not like the mosquito farm =-).

I use two 1/4 horsepower submerged pumps with a rope around them so they "point" the direction I want the water to circulate in. I chlorinate regularly and shock once a week. I always premix the chlorine or shock with water in a large bucket before adding it to the pool, that way it integrates into the flow from the pumps better.
