Default Advice on replastering over paint.

Hello everyone I have a dilema that I need help with. I have searched the web and cannot find a definitive answer. I am having my concrete pool repaired, as the tiles and coping beam need to be replaced all around. I am also going from a painted pool to a white plastered pool.

    My concern is:
I have some contractors saying I must have the paint sandblasted off before I plaster the pool, and others saying that sandblasting is not necessary. I believe the pool has at least 3 coats of paint on it currently. Is there a reason one woudl say to sandblast and one wouldn't?
    Thanks!

I've never heard of re-plastering without removing the paint.

Keep in mind that even if the other contractors CAN bond to the paint, the plaster will only be attached to the pool as well as the paint is. I suppose, if the paint is in great shape, this would be OK, if they can get it to stick in the first place.

But, I'd sure want to see some pools that were plastered on top of paint . . . 5 years or longer, ago, before I'd go along with that.

I have never heard of replastering over paint either.
