Default Moving an above ground pool

My in-laws have decided they don't want their pool anymore. I'm wondering how much work it would be to move it. It's 27ft and I would def need leveling and a new liner. Is it worth it? Also- an approximate cost? The pool is over 10 yrs old as well.... Thanks!!

Hi Haley, and welcome to the forum!!

There are a few folks on this forum that can answer your question, but I'm not one of them, except to say that you will definitely need a new liner. However, some of the others who can offer useable info should be by shortly and hopefully can help you out. One thing you might want to look into before you make your final decision, though, is whether you can still get a liner to fit the pool, since they're not universal.....

    1. A lot (of work)!
    2. You'll have to price the liner, based on exact pool dimensions and local availability.
    3. Is it worth it? Well we have had lots of questions like this year, but there have been few success stories.
    4. 10 years old in many cases = will not survive being dismantled.

Personally, I think they may hope you'll take it down for free, so they don't have to pay to have it done!

I'd suggest that you look at pools like these instead:
Intex 54979EG 24-Foot by 12-Foot by 52-Inch Rectangular Ultra Frame Pool
Intex 56416EG 18-Feet by 42-Inch Easy Set Pool Set
Intex 54955EG 18-Foot by 52-Inch Ultra Frame Pool Set
Intex 54949EG 24-Foot by 52-Inch Metal Frame Pool Set
Keep in mind that the big box stores will be putting these on sale beginning July 4th!

Hi, Im by far a pool expert. But we just took down a 18 foot above ground pool that was ten years old. We had to make room for a new house. Our original plan was to put it back up in a new spot once the house was done. Well after three days of my husband and I taking it down, we realized that it was not worth the hassle of putting it back up ourselves. the wall of the pool is very heavy and lots of the bolts had rusted. Considering we would have to had to hire someone to come in with a backhoe and level out an area, then get sand to level, and then buy a new liner, we figured it would be best to save up extra money and go for a brand new pool and have the company install it.
This year we ended up putting up an Intex easy set pool. We got a 16 foot by 42 inch pool and it was on sale for $179. I would suggest going that route first to see if you even enjoy having a pool. Although I don't see why you wouldn't. Pools are great! But it would be a bummer if you did all that work to find out you didn't like having a pool.
