    Default clogged pool filter

I have low filter suction. My pressure gauge is reading 15 - i believe I have suctioned up some leaves and they are caught in the pipes. Can I use a shop vac to remove leaves? If so, what steps are needed to continue with this process?

If you did suck up some leaves then maybe a shop-vac will work to suck them back out. However, the suction side of a pool pump produces way more suction than a shop-vac and they may be really jammed in the pipe. Worth a try though. You can also stick a garden hose in the inlet to the pump basket and pack some rags or something to give a tight fit and see if water pressure can blow the stuff out the skimmer. One reason to always use the skimmer basket.

Filters don't have suction; pumps may though. I assume you mean that there is little suction at the skimmer?
+ Is your flow out of the returns reduced?
+ What is your NORMAL pressure gauge reading?

It's not too likely that leaves are caught in your pipes. Sticks could be, but those won't be removed with a shop vac.
