You could be right. I just thought she meant that they were floating around too much and not staying on the bottom where her vacuum head could get them.

floating around too much is correct. But, after 8 days of spending 2 hours at a time of vacuuming, I am finally starting to see some lessening of the leaf particles. Thank you for your help and I am looking forward to learning all about the BBB pool method.

When I get loads of sand and/or leaves, I jump in with the hose/vacuum head, and chase all the leaves; do the same with bugs! (after making sure skimmer basket is in place!) it's easier from in the pool sometimes- vacuum around steps, as I get in, then S-L-O-W-L-Y mover around with the vacuum...
