Default Pool Cover and Algae on Vacation

Hi, I have an in ground pool with an automatic pool cover. During the summer I will be on vacation for about 10-12 days and during that time for safety and other reasons I will leave the cover on the pool. In the past when I have done this, when I return I usually have some yellow algae in the pool. Is there anything I can do in advance before I go on vacation to prevent this? Thanks

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

Many people find that using a dose of Polyquat 60 (the ONLY algaecide that we recommend around here! ) can help retard algae growth over extended periods of time. That's why some people around here close with it during the winter.

I just bought that! Yes, I have been reading this forums words of wisdom about that algaecide and I applied the initial dose this past weekend. I will continue with maintenance doses and hopefully that will work. If not I will be asking how to get rid of the algae when I return from vacation. Thanks.
