Regarding your holes, there's a fair chance you can find some sort of pipe that would fit inside your existing holes, but would fit the umbrella.

If you can supply measurements of the hole ID and the umbrella tubing OD, I can probably make some suggestions (I was a plumber, so I'm familiar with many sorts of pipe and tubing.)
