What are the ingredients in the shock?

Also, your pH is too low. Any readings below 7.0 are acidic and can damage your pool and since 6.8 is the lowest a tester can read, your pH could actually be much lower. Use some 20 Mule Team Borax (laundry aisle at Walmart) to raise it. We normally say to pour it slowly into the skimmer but since your pump is not running, that won't work. Dissolve it in buckets of water and pour it around the pool. If you have a clean broom or oar or something, use that to mix it up as best you can. Since you have a large volume pool, start with a full box.

You can also add some bleach so the pool doesn't turn green while you are waiting on the pump. Add a couple of gallons slowly around the perimeter pouring as far from the side as you can. And, again, stir it up as well as you can.

Watermom, in another thread you said something about using a submersible pump to aid in circulating while the filter pump was down. Pump in the shallow end, with hose running to deep?

How about making sure the pump is clean internally, by recirculating a 1:1 bleach:water solution in a bucket for about 10 min before introducing the pump to the pool......

Couldn't these guys also use the bucket/pump/hose to shoot the chemicals towards the middle of the pool? or is "as far as you can reach" good enough?

New pump is up and running! Shocked with 4lbs of Ca Hypo. Added 1 box of Borax, and 6lbs of CYA. CYA was added via nylon stocking in front of return. Current levels are:
Chlorine >5 (using HTH 6way test kit)
Alk = 90
CYA = 35, but still dissolving
pH = 7.2

How am I lookin'?

Lookin' good! (But, order the K-2006 kit -- test kit link below. You won't be sorry!)

Charlie -- I think all of those ways you mentioned would be fine. You just want to do something to get the bleach mixed in as well as possible without a pump.
