Intex saltwater with sand filter

I have a 1050 gph sand filter with an Intex 18x9x52 pool. I would like to use a saltwater filter with the sand filter. Could I put a y-joint at the pool wall and run the filters at different times? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I don't know what a salt-water filter is. Never heard of it. Are you confusing it with a salt-water chlorine generator? In which case, that runs WITH your sand filter.

I think the Intex salt unit is combined with a cartridge filter. Maybe Both filters could be connected in series - maybe remove the cartridge.

You may be thinking of something like this:

That model cannot be used with another pump and filter. What you probably want is one of these two models:
