Default New Pool owner here with question about backfilling abound new pool.

Hi everyone, I just had a new sharkline 24x52 pool installed. I have an ecco sand filter with a 1hp motor. My question: my yard was out of level by 29 inches on one end. About 3/4 of the pool in below ground level going from 29 inches in the center to ground level at both ends. What can I do with the area behind the pool walls before it gets to the earth. Can I back fill this area? It is about 1 1/2 feet wide. If I do nothing will the ground erode and fall into the pool walls? Thanks for any help with the problem.

Here is a pic of the retaining wall we built behind my pool using basically the same type of blocks that Ben showed above. My yard is also sloped.

(The pic was from my phone so not the greatest.)
