chlorine directly into skimmer. D.E Filter

Is it ok to pour chemicals directly into the skimmer, with a D.E filter? Chlorine or Acid. I usually just pour them into the discharge area. wondering if it will hurt the filter fingers etc.....

Everything but acid is the general consensus.
