    Default Help with Green Water !

    Hi All,

    New to this forum and I need some help. I have a new 27,000 gal. gunite pool. I have a SWG with a cartridge fiter. My pool water is clear but has turned a lime green. I tried shocking it twice over the last few days but no change. I had it checked for algae, negative. I had it filled with town water but top it off with well water.

    I am hoping someone can steer me in the right direction.

    My chemistry today is as follows;

    TC 1.0
    pH 7.2
    Alk 110
    CA 220
    CYA 40

    No, not yet. Pool store tested the water. They told me no algae, so the problem was probably with metals, but they did not test for metals.

    I have never heard of a "test" for algae before - so I cannot comment on it.

    You need to get your iron level and copper level tested and then post the results - don't let them tell you that it's "normal"

    If you have NO metals in your pool-my concern would be that your chlorine level is low. You should shock your pool up to 15-20ppm of chlorine and hold it there until the pool clears. Test your water 3x a day (this is where having a test kit is a good idea) and bring the chlorine level up each time with BLEACH. I don't recommend using your SWG to shock your pool.

    Once the pool is clear - let the chlorine level drop NO LOWER than 3ppm-6ppm.

    Thanks for the advice. I did have metals present and started with metal out.
    It seems to be clearing.

    Curious, why don't you like using the SWG to shock the pool?
